This collection gathers together Kieran's most read essays from 2017 to 2025 and chart the ever shifting conversations surrounding Autistic people.

Written in an accessible, non-academic, style this book contains 17 of Kieran's most read, shared and cited essays covering topics such as what is autism, Autistic Burnout, Autistic Masking, Autistic identity and so much more.

Autism: A Collection of Essays brings together the most widely-read and influential writing of Autistic researcher, consultant and author, Kieran Rose.

Published during a period of profound change in how autism has been understood, these essays capture the evolution of ideas that have challenged long-held assumptions about Autistic people and the stories society tells about them. Each of the seventeen essays published in the book were originally published on my blog and are all still available to read there.

I wanted to publish them all in a book as not everyone enjoys reading on a screen and to have something tangible to hold, make notes in or even fill up with post-it notes is something which brings so many people joy.

The book is 400 pages long and that is a huge amount of reading to do via blogs!

I know that so many people who have previously read the essays online (often multiple times) have been really excited to have them compiled into a book which can easily be read, re-read and dipped into as and when needed. 

But please know that if you are in any way struggling financially you do not need to feel like you will miss out if you don't buy the book. Each of the essays contained in the book are free to read on my blog, with no sign up needed, and always will be free to read.

Taken together, in the new book format, these essays collectively trace how conversations around Autistic people have shifted over nearly a decade across society, culture, and academia, while also reflecting the evolution of my own thinking as I have written, learned, challenged and argued, listened, reflected and grown. 

In that sense, the book becomes a kind of map of the discourse itself: where we started, what needed to change, what has shifted, and what still urgently needs to change if experiences and life outcomes for ALL Autistic people are to genuinely improve.
